Military Pay Dates 2026-2027: Complete Calendar (USAA Pay Dates & Early Deposit)
Military paydays fall on the 1st and the 15th of every month. When either date lands on a weekend or a federal holiday, DFAS moves payday to the last business day before it — never after. That one rule explains every early paycheck below, including the 2027 dates I worked out day by day against the calendar: February 12, April 30, May 14, July 30, August 13, and December 30 all shift early.
If you bank with USAA, your pay can land up to two business days before the official payday. Navy Federal posts it one business day early for Free Active Duty Checking members. Everything below — the 2026 calendar, the 2027 calendar, both banks’ early dates, retiree pay, and LES timing — is in one place so you can plan around the actual deposit, not the rumor.

2026 Military Pay Dates
Here is the official DFAS schedule for 2026, with the earliest possible USAA deposit next to each payday. Ten of the year’s 24 paydays shifted early — mostly because the 1st or 15th fell on a weekend.

*Earliest possible USAA deposit — not guaranteed. USAA credits pay as soon as DFAS sends the pay file, so the actual date can vary by a day.
As of late October 2026, your remaining paydays this year are October 30, November 13, December 1, December 15, and December 31. Note the last one: New Year’s Day 2027 falls on a Friday (a federal holiday), so December’s end-of-month check moves up to Thursday, December 31.
2027 Military Pay Dates
DFAS had not published its official 2027 schedule at the time I wrote this, so I built the table below by applying the official DFAS weekend/holiday rule to every 1st and 15th of 2027 and checking each date against the calendar and the federal holiday list. Six paydays shift early. The USAA and Navy Federal columns use each bank’s published early-deposit policy (two business days and one business day, respectively), so treat them as the earliest you could see the money — and double-check against DFAS once the official 2027 schedule is out.

*Earliest possible — depends on when DFAS transmits the pay file. Navy Federal’s early deposit requires Free Active Duty Checking.
Two dates in this table surprise almost everyone. February 12 — because February 15, 2027 is Presidents Day, a federal holiday, so the mid-month check moves to the preceding Friday. And December 30 — because January 1, 2028 falls on a Saturday, the federal holiday is observed on Friday, December 31, and payday moves to the business day before that, Thursday the 30th.

How the Weekend and Holiday Rule Actually Works
You’ll see a lot of sites say “payday moves to the Friday before.” That’s a decent shortcut, but it’s not the real rule — and it breaks down around holidays. The actual DFAS rule: if the 1st or the 15th falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, you are paid on the last business day before it.
Three things people get wrong about this:
1. “Business day” excludes federal holidays, including observed ones. December 30, 2027 is a Thursday — not a Friday — because Friday, December 31 is the observed New Year’s holiday. Pay can’t settle on a day the federal payment system is closed.
2. The shift is always backward, never forward. Survivor annuitants are the one exception in the military pay world — their checks move to the next business day (more on that below). Active-duty pay never moves later.
3. The end-of-month check is dated the 1st of the next month. That’s why March’s second check shows up on April 1. When you’re budgeting, label each deposit for the month it covers, not the month it lands in — especially around the shifted dates.

USAA Pay Dates: How Early Deposit Really Works
USAA doesn’t advance your pay out of its own pocket. What happens is simpler: DFAS sends banks the pay file a few days before payday, and USAA credits your account the moment that file arrives instead of waiting for the official date. In practice that means your military pay shows up up to two business days early.
A few things worth knowing:
- It’s automatic. Any USAA checking account with direct deposit qualifies — there’s no special account tier and nothing to enroll in.
- It’s not guaranteed. If DFAS sends the file late — which happens around holidays, during system issues, or funding disruptions — you get paid on the regular payday instead. Plan bills around the official DFAS date, not the early one.
- “Business days” is doing real work. Two business days before a Monday payday is the previous Thursday, not Saturday. And federal holidays in between don’t count — that’s why the November 13, 2026 payday (a Friday) has a soonest USAA date of Tuesday, November 10: Veterans Day sits in the middle.
- Direct deposit is required. If you’re still getting paper checks or haven’t set up direct deposit through myPay, none of this applies.
The tables above use the soonest possible USAA dates. In a normal month most members see the deposit land one to two business days before payday, usually in the early morning hours.
Navy Federal Pay Dates: One Business Day Early
Navy Federal’s policy is spelled out on its own site: members with Free Active Duty Checking automatically receive their Direct Deposit of Net Pay one business day early. A few specifics:
- Only Free Active Duty Checking qualifies. Other Navy Federal checking accounts get paid on the regular DFAS date. The account itself has no monthly fee as long as qualifying military direct deposit keeps posting.
- It’s automatic — no enrollment, no opt-in.
- Like USAA, it’s not a guarantee. It depends on DFAS transmitting the pay file on time.
Early pay compared
| USAA | Navy Federal | Armed Forces Bank | Standard bank | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| How early | Up to 2 business days | 1 business day | Up to 1 business day | On payday |
| Account needed | Any checking with direct deposit | Free Active Duty Checking only | Checking/savings with direct deposit | Any |
| Enrollment | Automatic | Automatic | Automatic | — |
| Guarantee | No — depends on DFAS file | No — depends on DFAS file | No — depends on DFAS file | — |

If raw speed is the priority, USAA’s extra day wins. If you want branches — including on-base locations overseas — Navy Federal’s footprint is the advantage. Either way, both banks calculate “early” from the adjusted DFAS payday (after weekend/holiday shifts), not the calendar 1st or 15th.
2027’s Uneven Months: Budget for Three Paydays — and One
Because shifted checks land in the month before their nominal month, 2027 has an uneven rhythm if you budget by calendar month:
- Three paydays: April (Apr 1, 15, 30), July (Jul 1, 15, 30), December (Dec 1, 15, 30)
- One payday: January (Jan 15 only), May (May 14 only), August (Aug 13 only)
No money goes missing — the “extra” check is simply next month’s first deposit arriving early. The trap is treating it as bonus money. If your rent is due August 1, the July 30 deposit is your August rent money, and your next deposit doesn’t come until August 13. Label it the day it lands. (In a dual-military household you’re juggling two of these rhythms at once — our dual-military BAH calculator helps with the housing side of that math.)
When Your LES Is Available
Your Leave and Earnings Statement — the pay stub that shows base pay, BAH, BAS, deductions, allotments, TSP contributions, and leave balance — posts in myPay about a week before each payday. If a deposit looks wrong, the LES is the first place to check: it shows exactly what DFAS calculated versus what your bank received. Keep an eye on it in January, when the new pay rates and any deduction changes first appear.

Retiree and Annuitant Pay Dates
Retired pay works differently: it’s paid once a month, on the 1st, for the month just ended (in arrears). The weekend/holiday rule splits two ways:
- Retirees are paid on the last business day before the weekend or holiday.
- Survivor annuitants (SBP) are paid on the first business day after.
That split catches families off guard. For April 2027, a retiree’s check arrives Friday, April 30 — but the survivor annuity doesn’t land until Monday, May 3.
| Pay for | Retirees paid | Annuitants paid |
|---|---|---|
| October 2026 | Fri, Oct 30 | Mon, Nov 2 |
| November 2026 | Tue, Dec 1 | Tue, Dec 1 |
| December 2026 | Thu, Dec 31 | Mon, Jan 4, 2027 |
| January 2027 | Mon, Feb 1 | Mon, Feb 1 |
| February 2027 | Mon, Mar 1 | Mon, Mar 1 |
| March 2027 | Thu, Apr 1 | Thu, Apr 1 |
| April 2027 | Fri, Apr 30 | Mon, May 3 |
| May 2027 | Tue, Jun 1 | Tue, Jun 1 |
| June 2027 | Thu, Jul 1 | Thu, Jul 1 |
| July 2027 | Fri, Jul 30 | Mon, Aug 2 |
| August 2027 | Wed, Sep 1 | Wed, Sep 1 |
| September 2027 | Fri, Oct 1 | Fri, Oct 1 |
| October 2027 | Mon, Nov 1 | Mon, Nov 1 |
| November 2027 | Wed, Dec 1 | Wed, Dec 1 |
| December 2027 | Thu, Dec 30 | Mon, Jan 3, 2028 |
One more thing retirees should know: the 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027 (announced October 14, 2026, effective December 1) first shows up in the December 31, 2026 retiree deposit and the January 4, 2027 annuity payment. VA disability compensation follows the same schedule — it’s also paid in arrears. (Members who took the REDUX/Career Status Bonus option get the COLA minus one point: 2.6%.) USAA and Navy Federal members get the same early-deposit treatment on retiree direct deposits as on active-duty pay.
Guard and Reserve Pay Timing
If you’re on active-duty orders of more than 30 days, you’re on the same twice-a-month DFAS schedule as everyone else above. For traditional drill weekends, the rhythm is different: drill pay is typically processed within 3–5 business days after the drill weekend once your unit certifies attendance. Annual training pay follows the regular 1st-and-15th schedule while you’re on orders.
When the 2027 Pay Raise Hits Your Check
The 2027 raise takes effect January 1, 2027, which means the first paycheck at the new rates is the mid-month deposit on January 15, 2027. The December 31, 2026 deposit covers the second half of December and is still paid at 2026 rates — don’t go looking for the raise in December.
As of October 2026, the operative plan is the tiered raise set by presidential authority in August: 7% for E-1 through E-5, 6% for E-6 through O-3, and 5% for O-4 and above. But the Senate’s defense bill proposes a flat 3.6% instead, and the final NDAA could still change the numbers before year-end. If you want to see what the raise means in dollars, our 2026 military pay chart has the full tables — and remember your BAH and BAS ride along in the same deposit (what BAS covers, and why BAH and BAS are tax-free). To see your full monthly picture with the new rates, run the numbers on the homepage calculator, and watch our complete 2027 BAH rates guide — the new housing rates land in mid-December.
What to Do If Your Pay Doesn’t Show Up
First, check which date you’re actually waiting for. If you’re counting on an early deposit, remember it isn’t guaranteed — the official DFAS payday is the date that matters, and banks can’t release money DFAS hasn’t sent yet. If the official payday has passed and there’s still nothing:
- Check your LES in myPay. It shows what DFAS actually calculated and sent. If the LES looks right, the problem is on the bank side; if it’s wrong or missing, it’s a pay-system issue.
- Verify your direct deposit details in myPay. Wrong routing or account numbers are the most common cause of delayed or missing deposits — especially if you recently changed banks.
- Contact your unit’s finance office, then DFAS customer service if the issue persists. For Reserve and Guard members, start with your unit administrator, since drill pay depends on certified attendance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the USAA military pay dates for 2026?
USAA members can receive military pay up to two business days before each official DFAS payday. The full 2026 schedule is in the table above — for example, the October 30 official payday has a soonest USAA date of October 28, and the December 31 payday could post as early as December 29.
How many days early does USAA deposit military pay?
Up to two business days before the official DFAS payday, once DFAS transmits the pay file. It’s automatic with direct deposit, but it’s not guaranteed every cycle — late DFAS files mean payday itself.
What happens when military payday falls on a weekend or holiday?
DFAS pays on the last business day before the weekend or holiday — never after. For example, the February 2027 mid-month payday moves to Friday, February 12 because the 15th is Presidents Day.
When will I see the 2027 pay raise in my paycheck?
January 15, 2027 — the first payday after the January 1 effective date. The December 31, 2026 deposit is still at 2026 rates.
How early does Navy Federal deposit military pay?
One business day before the official DFAS payday, automatically — but only with a Free Active Duty Checking account. Other Navy Federal accounts are paid on the regular date.
When is my LES available?
About a week before each payday in myPay. Check it first if a deposit amount looks off, and always review the January LES when new pay rates take effect.
How do National Guard and Reserve members get paid?
Drill-weekend pay is usually processed within 3–5 business days after the drill. On active-duty orders over 30 days (including annual training), you follow the standard twice-a-month schedule.
When do military retirees get paid?
On the 1st of each month for the prior month — or the last business day before, if the 1st is a weekend or holiday. Survivor annuitants are paid the first business day after instead. The 2027 table is above.
Can I split my military pay between two bank accounts?
Yes, through allotments, which you set up in myPay. Many members send a fixed amount straight to savings or to a second account each payday.
Can a government shutdown delay military pay?
It can disrupt timing. Short-term funding was extended through December 11, 2026; during the fall 2025 shutdown the Pentagon had to shift funds between accounts to keep paychecks on schedule. Retired pay comes from a separate trust fund and isn’t affected the same way. Keeping a few weeks of expenses in reserve is the simplest hedge.
